Our first initiative.
Book of Beirut is a collection of 128 heartfelt drawings that express the anger and the bewilderment of the children of Beirut – but also their hopes and their dreams.
It is a healing project transforming trauma into hope after the Beirut explosion on August 4, 2020. Marking the first anniversary of the explosion, the publication encompasses a candid collection of art expressing how the children of Beirut felt, interpreted, remembered, and thought about the horrific event.
The compilation is a publication of YZness Publishing.
A growing legacy.
Book of Beirut was born out of difficult events and continues to provide support and reassurance for children. As part of the NGO’s initiatives, it supports its mission and vision through the following goals:
- Broaden access to artistic inspiration for children across Lebanon.
- Build on the experience developed during the five sessions of the book’s production.
- Raise awareness of the importance of art and creativity in every child’s daily life.
- Envision a world where every child discovers the tools they need to express their feelings through art.
- Open the 'B.O.B Art' atelier as a free, inclusive space for children in need.
- Achieve therapeutic outcomes through a fun and unconventional artistic approach.
Voices shaped Through art.
Featuring 128 children, the compilation encompasses original heartfelt drawings and paintings.
Each drawing is accompanied by a short message, addressed by each child to the children of the world, and a description of the drawing recorded in the artist-child’s own voice.
Expert-led process.
The project spanned four sessions, with personalized activity stages led by a team of volunteer experts, including child animators, child psychologists, and psychomotor therapists.
